Furniture manufacturer shuts down Canadian operations, moves production to N.Carolina
Prepac, a Canadian company that makes ready-to-assemble furniture, has closed its manufacturing plant in Delta, British Columbia. It has moved all production to its facility in North Carolina. The union representing Prepac’s workers, Unifor, blames tariffs for the decision. More than 170 workers in Delta have lost their jobs. Prepac has not confirmed if tariffs directly caused the closure but says the decision was made after careful consideration and has been in the works for months. Prepac, which was founded in Canada, was bought by a private equity firm in 2019. The company invested $27 million to expand in North Carolina, where it has a larger customer base.
