Seniors go without food and heat and medical care because they don’t want to leave their home. They are harassed and harassed if they fall behind after paying off the home and diligently paying taxes for decades.
It’s abuse.

True! So that they can pay their property taxes, people forego seeing doctors, forego travel, forego expensive foods, never buy new clothing, and keep heat dangerously low.
Because if they do not pay their property taxes, the government will take their homes away.
Yes, they might love their homes, but they know that with no shelter, the other necessities will not matter!
Typically, if the tax isn't paid after 3 delinquent warnings:
Boom!
Their home goes on the 'county roll' or similar list, where their property is sold at auction.
Movies and books might have given you the impression these kinds of things only happened in the old days, but I can tell you:
I've seen it happen in our own days.
Horribly sad.
Because if they do not pay their property taxes, the government will take their homes away.
