We tried to grow purple potatoes this year and my first time trying to do taters. We basically got back what we planted. They sprouted and the growth above the soil looked great but we ended up with the same number of potatoes. We will try again next year :)

I use Safeway Gold potatoes, and this year watered more than in past - got a good crop before the blister bugs and gophers, tried to eradicate the crop!
We had about 150lb, from a plot about 30 x 20ft. I put them in hessian sacks in the garage, then use the ones that are turning green as seeds for next year.
We have clay, coliche, and rocks... but with the horses contributions over the last 5 years, the soil has improved greatly.
We extended the garden and added 3 covered raised beds for winter crop, and - more onions. 😀
