Herpes virus (HSV) is a widespread infection in humans and animals, causing diseases such as herpes epithelial keratitis (HEK). It is primarily caused by HSV-1 infection, a viral infection that poses a significant threat to ocular health because the virus can lurk in the trigeminal nerve and can lead to recurrent attacks and blindness.
