If you have a home backup generator, or even a portable generator for your fridge/freezer in the event of power outage, NOW is a good time to check it over, service it if needed (fluids, filters) & test it making sure it fires up & runs properly.
You don't wanna be doing that during an emergency.
REMINDER: Always run generators outdoors & use heavy extension cords to your fridge. Be sure your metrics are good so that you have power in excess for what is being demanded by the appliance(s). Don't overload them. Do the math.
IMPORTANT: For those who have home Generators attached to service breaker boxes - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TRANSFER SWITCH PROPERLY INSTALLED and that it works and isn't damaged or corroded. Don't power up your house without a Transfer Switch, as you are likely sending electricity down a dead powerline and that endangers our LINEMEN who are working on power lines during power outages.
BE SAFE.
