Nice thing about growing in a container is that you can physically move the plants in order to provide more sun, shade or protection from severe weather.

I've done it with young saplings that can't handle direct sun in their first 2 years but require it once they mature. 5 gallon buckets with holes drilled in the bottom and sides work great.
