They can hope that it distracts, and maybe that was their plan. It's not going to work, however, because the people interested in the one story are equally interested in the other.
If anything, their little plan may backfire, as each story - Epstein Island & Vote Fraud - are key to what's going on and key to each other and will continuously remind everyone of that fact.
