I’m skimming 1900, or The Last President, by Ingersoll Lockwood, author of Little Baron Trump, and struck by the description of New York City hurtling like an ocean liner into an iceberg. The year is 1896, a populist has been elected President, and the people who elected him are coming for the rich. Or the fear of that happening justifying militias raking the mob with rifle volleys and advancing by sword and bayonet thrusts into the mob.( I’m glad that won’t happen again!)
The Titanic and it’s Federal Reserve Bank are 17 years in the future. Oh, well. Better to listen to Wikipedia. And Snopes, hahaha!
