Reading the list of items in the article, it looks like standard setup 101.
I'm not really a network person, but I did manage a cisco router for my home a few years ago. Most of these appear to be what were considered standard setup items.
A few years ago, If you were to stick a device on the internet it would be discovered by bots within 5-10 minutes and auto hacks will begin soon after.
