Nazi Paperclip Scientists landed heavily in Houston, Texas.
Grew up 2 miles from Rice University, old enough to remember that area before the Texas Medical Center exploded from Hermann (early Germ immigrees, 19th c., the All-That-Is-Good Breedstock of Texas)...
Hermann, to the Methodist, to the Texas Children's, to the St. Jude (Danny Weird Thomas), wiping out old Main Street to build the TMC, where I worked everywhere as an administrative temp in the 80's.
German kids a block away played en harness in a front yard on Rice Blvd., looked happy.. Across the street man who was involved in the atomic bomb. A quiet lad, Hans, a few blocks over, German accent. Now that I think back, I see it, see it, SEE IT, in so many areas of a life lived unto my present 67 years.
Career in show biz in small level, j degree in broadcast, freemasons in family up to a point, pesticide manufacture, Gulf Coast Houston.

So CLEAR now. But then I didn't see.
