I was wondering about that too..I'm 80 yrs. old, live alone and have trouble walking..If I'd fall will I be able to call someone?

Yes. The signal app works with your text message and when the phone service goes out connects to the satellite for emergency services. Your family and friends need to have it to contact you. Both parties need it. It can be used to text, group chat, video chat make phone calls and send video and photos. Hospitals use the emergency phone service and computer internet during shutdown I guess. 911 and EMS Fire etc. Your family should ask about that also.
