I believe Elon did a post wanting it to be available for everyone on Twitter. (No, I don't believe that's the original / real Elon.)
Keep in mind that the majority of humans place less value when things are free or priced low.
I'm not that person, however,
if given the option for something tangible,
most humans will believe, when the same item is higher priced, it must be of better quality.
I heard tickets were 9.99 in some areas, rather than the usual higher cost for a movie.
