The new BRICS currency being discussed will reportedly be backed by gold, rare earth metals and the other natural resources of the BRICS members, with expansion bringing in the vast natural resource wealth of new members.

While the US dollar is backed arguably by nothing other than the US’ military dominance and declining hegemonic bullying, will the arrival of the BRICS currency deal a quick and fatal blow to the position of the dollar as the world’s most dominant currency?
