In Constitutional Law class, I’ve learned it started all the way back to Alexander Hamilton bribing fellow members of Congress to vote for a central bank (Bank of the United States -which Madison and Jefferson were vehemently against (as was Washington, who signed the bill, albeit reluctantly, we are told)).

Then, Marbury v. Madison confirmed Constitution is the Law of the Land (trick statement, as they put us into Maritime Law w/Act of 1871, thus Constitution does not apply any more).

In the M v M decision, SCOTUS said they have authority to do “Judicial Review” (i.e., decide outcomes, rather than just provide opinion - this means our laws are really driven by non-elected people); note, they do NOT have this authority per Constitution (which they effectively disposed of anyhow).

But, one could say it started w/Hamilton. Why else make a musical to rewrite his perfidious role? 🤨
