"A Digital ID and the CBDC annihilates the separation between data, money and state. A Digital ID and the CBDC gives enormous power to governments and grants them control over the population’s spending, saving, investing, and borrowing power. As the Chinese Communist Party has demonstrated, a Digital ID and the CBDC are tools for financial censorship and manipulating behaviour, as these are key-components of a social credit score system.

Under a CBDC-based monetary regime, the government or anyone high enough in its hierarchy can ban a citizen, should their social credit score drop too low, from transacting in said digital currency. Any government bureaucrat or delegated third party having access to the CBDC system could wipe out anyone’s account balance entirely. On the other-hand, they can reward “good behaviour” by boosting a citizen’s social credit score and purchasing power through the use of the same tools." — from a private email.
