always thought this was interesting from Mark Passio's Natural Law talks (my notes):

Original Prayer of Serenity - Rienhold Niebuhr
God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed,
the courage to change the things which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish one from the other.

watered down 12-step version that changes deep core meaning:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can change,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

No word "I" in this prayer

what cannot be changed = Natural Law, laws of morality
discover and harmonize with
have the courage to take action as to the things which should be changed
choosing right over wrong

the current human condition of slavery can be changed.
The laws of Nature cannot be changed.
