Nana speaks from first hand experience. Watched someone I cared about a lot sit and lose over 22,000 in one night because he was toasted and refused to quit playing poker with a sobor poker player that was even cheating.
Yep Nana called him out and it still didn't matter, my fren was too toasted.
He would bet 1000 per game on weekends on every single game played in football for years.
Gamblers always think the very next time they will win it all back.
Bookies balance their books, you will always lose & they take the juice money.
That was his last hard lesson.
Gambling, Alcoholism, Drug addictions all the same.
I learned the hard way that enabling them only makes it worse.
This person will over come or fail depending on their own abilities to change and take control of their life.
People around them will have to accept their choice.
No one, NO ONE, can do it for them.

No and the local bookies draw ppl in by giving them tips to win a few times up front to build confidence so they will make larger bets.
It's not only the bookies, it is all rigged.
It is impossible for the bookies to call the point spreads for every game every weekend for years so closely without help from teams and players to make it happen as well.
I have followed football since I was about 5.
I have seen players even run practically the length of the field untouched and purposefully fall down on their own a yard from the score to keep the points right.
Only suckers bet on games. It's like poker machines. I used to be a purchasing agent VP for a company that made them.
Make no mistake, I machine with it's back against the wall challenging the world is rigged.

Saw through the professional sports facade rather early on. Some decades ago, at the third grade lots of classmates were trading hockey player cards. I never really understood why the cards were valuable to begin with, but the zeal they went after the "rare" items kept ten year old me puzzled. I don't think any of them kept those cards.
I've never really understood mass audience sports. There was something about actors/pros sweating for my entertainment that made me feel guilty early on and the feeling has never gone away.
Top level sports are rigged. It's all fake, distractions and designed to take your resources away from you while pushing idols.

It is rigged top to bottom in my opinion too but I do love a good ballgame, a good REAL ballgame where teams are really playing to win.
