I doubt we are going to see any nuclear explosions, but who am I to know? I was just pointing out that being able to destroy any ballistic missile as it is launched does not necessarily prevent someone blowing one up in situ. What if someone concreted one into the Chernobyl sarcophagus 25 years ago just for good measure? We have surrounded ourselves with critical infrastructure which cannot possibly be defended from modern weapons. We really should try to de-escalate!

There was a thread this week about the Tsar Bomba tested at Novaya Zemlya. I read a comforting report that the USSR would never be able to use the Tsar Bomba because it was too heavy to attach to a missile. That's OK then, but how about smuggling it in a ship? That was after all how Einstein imagined atomic weapons would be used.
