This week @XSI decoded Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I was surprised to find claims online asserting that Indiana Jones was based on a Ronald Reagan film!

If you look side-by-side the main characters have the same outfit, and the films have the same opening plot about stealing a 6 inch golden idol, among other curious connections...

Given Raiders of the Lost Ark came out the same year Reagan became POTUS? What meaning is there in mimicking the visuals of a 1951 Reagan film in a 1981 movie about keeping Nazi's away from forbidden treasures?
