Have any of you ever had to clear out a raised planter bed thats full of brush that you don't want in it ?
HOW do you do it ?
It makes me cringe just looking at it- its full of grapevines and honeysuckle bushes.
How do I clear it out on my own?
any and all advice is welcome plz
thank U !

loosen undernear the roots with a hand trowel or a shovel & those suckers will pull right out. If I were there I’d be happy to go to town on it with you. I bet you’ll make some crazy awesome from what you grow. 💛

After a real good soaking you should be able to start pulling those roots up. I would use some shears on the bigger stuff to be able to see better. Gardening is hard work but rewarding. Having the right tools helps tremendously. Good luck! Those vines look like they may have a bulb root so make sure you get that out or they will keep growing.

1. soak the ground good
2. cut off all the branches with a strong pruner
3. dig around one root base at a time once the branches are cut. use the pruner to cut off as much as you can from the exposed root and lift up the root base with a shovel, rocking it back and forth until you have loosened it enough to remove.
I have removed deeply embedded bushes on my property by this method and it works well. It is hard work, but just do it step by step. 😇

I would water it first if it's really dry. Then next day pull up as much as you can by hand and use a bow rake to pull out roots and cultivate the soil. When pulling grab as close to the soil as possible. I dont think it will take as much time as you're expecting.

Oh and place a tarp next to your raised bed so you wont be picking up weeds and brush for a week.

After doing any of this soak in a hot tub with epsom salts, borax, baking soda! Keep a dry towel close to hang over the tub for traction when you get out. Slippery.

You could rent a small rototiller. Will only take 20 or 30 minutes.

Just pull them out? Or cut them at the base with pruners? You could keep the grapevines and graft tasty grapes onto them too. Have them hanging off the side.

Cut and dig out the root system. it's a lot of work but you need to remove the main root stem otherwise it will just keep coming back.
Another option is to cut to the main root and spray with brush killer. You wont be able to plant for 2 weeks but you won't have to dig.

A good, pitchfork; the kind with wide flat tines pointed at end like a triangle. Garden pitchfork, not manure pitchfork.
