Romans 6:3-5 (KJV)
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

To be Baptized into Jesus Christ is to be Baptized into his death . That's the significance . But there you have the thief on the cross dying with Jesus because he died believing in Jesus . He's already on the cross paying for his own iniquities and yet , BELIEVED. And would be buried like Jesus BUT IN CHRIST and so demons can't touch him. The wages of sin is death . Jesus died for us , but the thief died for his iniquities BELIEVING. That's why Jesus accepted him in because Jesus was going to the dead to preach SALVATION, to save the souls trapped in death

Lol. 2 kinds of BAPTISM . Water BAPTISM and the BAPTISM of the HOLY GHOST.

John's BAPTISM is the Water BAPTISM "OF" Repentance FOR the REMISSION OF SIN. Who Remits sins? Jesus . How can that happen? THRU BELIEVING in Jesus. So when you BELIEVE, you'll be SAVED.

Mark 1:4
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Acts 19:4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 1:5, 8 (KJV)
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
