Evergrande wants 6-MONTH delay for onshore repayments
Chinese property giant Evergrande is once again begging for leeway on repayments, this time asking for 6 months grace on a $156.9mn bond as it struggles to meet over $300bn of total liabilities.
"A postponement is expected," said a holder of the bonds in question on condition of anonymity. "Given the company is under pressure to prioritize wages ... and apartments."
The only reasoning Evergrande itself gave for the requested delay was the “current operational status” of Hengda, its flagship property arm that issued the bonds. Shares in the company dropped 2.5% on Tuesday.
