ER protocol was to give tetnus immunizations to patients who had lacerations, puncture type wounds if they did not have a tetnus immunization in 5 years. That would be a lot of tetnus immunizations across the country every year. Before being admitted to nursing school tetnus was a required immunization. I believe the military require it as well.
