Some people take the position that there's so much disinformation floating around them these days that absolves them of any responsibility for checking anything before they believe it. This is 100% backwards.
You are more responsible for what you allow yourself to believe, not less. Don't listen to people who tell you it's ok to be lazy and not check anything before you pass it on because, hey who knows whether anything is real or not? That way lies complete detachment from reality.
Some people get this idea because I do research and assemble facts and then share my opinion here about a lot of current events, that means I'm offering to tell them what to think. That's not what I'm doing.
