UK: Anyone who practices law in any capacity can be deemed a lawyer.
You don't need to have specific qualifications.

He could not be called a solicitor though, because you do need quals to be a solicitor.

I put UK... I have no idea what the laws are in other countries.

But in UK, you don't need quals to practice law.
(Trust me, I worked in law for knocking on 20 years)

But a "lawyer" is just a generic name for someone who practices law.

But hey, I don't disagree with you. It's a horrible ugly dirty profession.
Most people studying law don't understand what it's like until they qualify and start working within it. Many leave within just a few years as it's not what they thought it would be like.

And our justice system, I agree, is corrupt.
