1. Singaporean scientist Theo Yik In told the Straits Times that the Indian strain of the coronavirus could make the world's pandemic situation worse.
"It is frightening the speed at which this variant could spread widely in society, often surpassing the ability of contact tracing devices to track and isolate the infected. The strain could unleash a bigger pandemic storm than what the world has seen before," the scientist believes.
2. The President of South Africa announced the renewal of more restrictive measures because of the threat of a third wave.
