BREAKING! Boone, NC: A Watauga County deputy has been shot and a standoff situation is underway in a Boone neighborhood, according to Watauga County Emergency Services. The Boone Police Department said on Wednesday afternoon that residents in the area of Hardaman Circle should “shelter in place” immediately. Mount Vernon School, which is nearby, was placed on lockdown starting at 11 a.m. Parents have been allowed to come to the school to pick up their children. Boone Police said they are assisting the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office in the Brown’s Chapel Area of Watauga County with the ongoing standoff. Boone Police is currently assisting the Watauga County Sherriff's Office in the Brown's Chapel Area of Watauga County with an ongoing stand-off. No additional information is available at this time.
