You see, if the information is accurate the speaker's primary intention was to inform you. This is the most important aspect of the entire interaction. It is here that the learning happens. If the speaker is incorrect then the speaker gets to learn of her/his error. If the speaker is correct, then the listener gains information that they themselves have verified.
