In most Native American tribes, the Owl is a unique combination/symbol of death and wisdom. They are believed to be “Guardians of the Underworld” and are good at embracing their personal darkness, spotting deception, and keeping secrets. They are very intuitive, perceptive, and live the acquisition of knowledge and bringing mysteries out of the dark.

In my tribe,(Seminole), the Owl is referred to as ‘’Stikini” (stee-kee-nee) which means “man-owl.” The Stikini are sinister monsters from Seminole folklore. Originally they were evil witches, who transformed themselves into owl-beings. I can remember my grandmother being weary even talking about them fearing that she could turn into one.

Some Native Americans wear Owl feathers to protect themselves from evil spirits using them as symbol of the power to predict the future.

The Wolf is considered a medicine being associated with courage, strength, loyalty, and success at hunting.

Many tribes believe Wolves are spiritual beings that can communicate with the gods and can impart special powers. These animals are allies and will always be by your side, ready to assist you when you need them.

The Wolf is also a protector of its land and territory and will defend it. They hold great courage and are very loyal. The Wolf pack represents a strong family unit. This is why Wolves are considered closely related to humans. Some Native American tribes believe their early ancestors were transformed from Wolves into men.

Worshipped for years by the American Indian, the White Buffalo is a symbol of abundance, manifestation, and big medicine. The birth of a sacred White Buffalo is a sign of hope and good things to come.

This awesome creature, so rare, so beautiful, let’s His Divine Presence be known to all who follow. Leading the herd over the snow-covered meadows, he is a master of all he surveys. This magnificent creature fears nothing except extinction of his kind.

The legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman tells how the People had lost the ability to communicate with the Creator. The Creator sent the sacred White Buffalo Calf Woman to teach the People how to pray with the Pipe. With that Pipe, seven sacred ceremonies were given for the people to abide in order to ensure a future with harmony, peace, and balance.
