MERKEL LOOSES THIRD MP, TWO OF THEM OVER CLAIMS OF BRIBES FOR FACE MASKS
German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s centre-right alliance has lost its third MP in a week, two of them over claims of bribes for assisting companies win state contracts for face masks and a third over allegations he took bribes from the government of Azerbaijan to boost its profile in Germany.
The CDU’s growing list of political woes has alarmed the party leadership before voters go to the polls on Sunday in the southwestern states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg.
The party is not expecting to win either state but final polls suggest a drubbing is on the cards.
