Béchamp's work was ignored, ridiculed, suppressed, and soon forgotten…

• The Terrain Theory:
Béchamp believed that disease is a result of an internal, acidic, and poorly oxygenated "terrain" (the body's internal environment) rather than external factors like germs.

• Microzymas:
Béchamp proposed that the fundamental units of life are "microzymas," which he believed were present in every cell, in the bloodstream, in animals, plants, and even in rocks.

• Microzymas in Health vs. Disease:
In a healthy organism, microzymas work to repair and nourish cells. However, when the terrain becomes acidic due to a toxic diet, negative emotions, or a poor lifestyle, microzymas morph into viruses, bacteria, yeast, fungus, and mold, which then break down the host.
