This verse seems like it's speaking to the unsaved since once Christ is in our hearts, He is always near...He is one with us forever & will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13).
I wonder if this verse is mistranslated because Christ is the one who cleanses & purifies our spirits of all sin once & for all (Hebrews 10).

The blood cleanses sinners from all sin (I John 1:7)

Only once in the New Testament that I know of is a Christian referred to as a sinner and that is when Paul called himself the worst of sinners because he persecuted/murdered Christians (! Timothy 1:5). Everywhere else after the resurrection, Christians are called saints, holy, the righteousness of God, perfect, etc. Our spirits are already made holy, but our souls are still being transformed (Romans 12). My spirit is the real me & I have a soul & body.

It's not a mistranslation, this verse is speaking to the sinners, or the lukewarm.
James 4:1-4
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Then you have these verses:
James 4:5-8
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, y

Hi, thanks:)

I just don't believe God would call us holy as Christians in many places in scripture & then turn around & call us adulterers (attack our identity) in another. I can't see him contradicting Himself. Christians commit adultery & lie, but they are not "adulterers" or "liars".

He could easily be speaking to the unsaved in some verses and to Christians in others.

Knowing who I am in Christ, completely changed my life so I am very careful to NEVER EVER call a Christian a "sinner".

Once I knew I was holy & righteous because God exchanged my old sin nature for a holy new nature, it became much easier to act like who I knew I truly was in the depths of my being. I stopped condemning myself 24/7 and continuously focusing on my sin. If I sinned, I knew it wasn't the real me doing it as Paul states in Romans 7. It became much easier to stop sinning & instead be loving others which is what holy humans who are "new creations" truly LOVE to do.

I completely understand what you are saying, I am just quoting the Bible.
But my interpretation or understanding of what James is talking about is a bit different.
James is speaking to the sinner, those that claim Christ with their mouth, but have no love in their heart for him.
Having a relationship with Jesus is what saves you, not just claiming Him.
They can also read the Word and Judge themselves. That why James speaks like this, so they can open their eyes to the truth of their own actions and words.
May the Father of glory bless you and your mightily, amen
