PROOF OF SAMSON AND HIS STRENGTH
Samson entered Philistine territory and went to Gaza, where he fell into sin with a harlot, as recorded in Judges 16:1–3. When the Philistines surrounded the city to trap him, Samson rose at midnight, tore the massive city gates from their foundations, and carried them to a hill overlooking Hebron. This act was not only a display of strength but a public humiliation of Gaza itself. Yet Samson soon fell again, becoming infatuated with Delilah of the Sorek Valley, near his hometown of Zorah. Bribed by the Philistine rulers, Delilah pressed Samson relentlessly to reveal the source of his strength. After deceiving her three times, he finally told the truth that his strength was bound to his Nazirite vow and his uncut hair. While he slept, she cut it off. The Philistines seized him, blinded him, and forced him into hard labor in a Gaza prison.

As time passed, Samson’s hair grew back. Brought out to entertain the Philistines in the temple of Dagon, he prayed for God to restore his strength one final time. God answered. Samson braced himself against two central supporting pillars and pushed them from their bases, bringing the entire temple down. In his death, he killed more Philistines than he had in his entire life, wiping out their leadership in a single moment. This event marked a decisive turning point in Israel’s struggle against Philistine domination. But was such a feat physically possible?
Archaeology has provided striking confirmation. Excavations at Tel Qasile in northern Tel Aviv and Tel Miqne south of the city have uncovered Philistine temples with the same distinctive design. Both structures were supported by two central wooden pillars set into stone bases, spaced roughly six feet apart. Such a configuration would allow a powerful man to dislodge the pillars and collapse the roof.

The archaeological evidence aligns precisely with the biblical account, demonstrating that Samson’s final act was not myth or exaggeration, but a historically plausible event rooted in real architecture and real places.
