This is some of the things I deal with renting this dump. Can't use the back bathroom at all. Kitchen sink drains into the bathtub, and the drain behind the bathroom sink drains onto the floor. I hate it here.

If the landlord refuses to fix it, you can call breech of agreement, and find another place, getting your deposit back.

You could probably sue him for environmental safety too.

That sounds nice, but I simply cannot afford to move with the little bit of SS I draw. She knows she has me. She refuses to fix anything and has for the past 13 years. Always threatens to raise rent if I have her fix anything. I've been doing my own repairs for years. She is being a nuisance right now because I have had no heat for the past 2 winters, have been using electric heaters and this house was only 56 degrees when it was cold outside. Ran my electric bills up so high. The old gas wall heater was spewing fumes in the house so I couldn't use it. I bought another heater this month and used the rent. She is sending texts and emails every couple of days reminding my I'm late on the rent. Then this summer she refused to fix the leaking roof in my closet, and it got in the wiring in the ceiling and fried all the electric outlets and lights on half of the house so now I have everything on one side on extension cords. Believe me if I ever am able to move she will pay for it.
