Kaliningrad is Moscow's only ice-free Baltic port and home to major military bases.

Cut it off via the Suwałki Gap or sea routes, and Russia's screaming existential threat.

Lately, chatter's grown about Lithuania or Poland tightening transit rules over sanctions, which Putin clearly sees as an act that would justify war.
