The SNAP program needs a massive overhaul, as does the entire welfare system which is fraught with abuse.
It should be a HAND UP to help those who find themselves on hard times.
It has become a HAND OUT for those who choose not to work.
People who do work provide the money for the system that allows those who WON'T work to suck the teats of the gov't cash cow.

I remember the first housing project built in my small town in the 70's. Within ONE YEAR the apartment complex was trashed, but several of the residents had new Cadillacs parked outside. Priorities 🙄🤦‍♀️.

Knew a guy whose mother lived in NYC. She came from a Caribbean island in the 70s, started doing drugs in the 80s, and has lived on food stamps and Section 8 ever since. Our tax $$ at work 🤬

We allow - and thus encourage - sloth, helplessness, and an entitlement mentality that's passed on through generations.
Bad behavior should not have beneficial consequences.
It's disgusting, and it has to change.
💥END RANT💥

There should be a requirement to have a job making at least the equivalent of the handout within 3 months of being on the program. No job, no more food stamps. Hungry people will soon realize if they want to eat, they must work. And they must buy only nutritious foods with food stamps. Chips, soda, beer, candy and junk food not covered.

A good plan in essence. However, there are those who collect food stamps that actually do need it.
For example. My sister, has been on disability since 18 years old. She has been very low vision her entire life. 13 eye surgeries before 1 yr old. 12 brain surgeries before a yr old. Lost complete vision at the age of 17. And cerebral palsy. She is able to get $200 a month disability. The only place in the rural area we live in that would hire her is good will, but for only 20 hrs a week...for $12/hr. She only gets $100 a month for food stamps. So tell me how she pays her rent....pays her bills....and buys food? Impossible.....
My father who worked for 30 years. Top in his field, there was an accident at work. He ended up having to have 2 shoulder surgeries....the workmans comp dr botched the surgeries...he now has bearly any function in his arms. Again....disability...pays nothing....he cant use his arms to do much of anything. He filled a cup off coffee and dropped it half way across

The room do to nerve damage.

I had to apply because my husband lost his job in Nov. He applied everywhere. DID all the call backs. He even applied to flip burgers for 70% less than he was making. But he was "overqualified" they wouldnt hire him. We were 2 months behind on our mortgage. I was working 40 hrs a week. Had our 5yr old to feed. So it was pay a bill or make sure she was fed. We lost food stamps because he couldnt find work.

So yes...there should be stricter stipulations. But, broad stroking and saying no food job no food stamps....takes away from Many people who actually really need it.

Of course there would need to be exceptions for those with severe disabilities and so forth. If the system is overhauled with a hand up approach and those scamming the system and those collecting who are ineligible, like illegas, there could be an increase in the benefit for those like your sister who really need it. These systems are ripe with fraud and abuse and a revised system needs to be established IMO.
