It's come to my attention out there that there are people that just want a regular TV (non smart TV) yes, they still make them (Philips classic for example) but sometimes you get stuck with a smart TV anyway; NO PROBLEM! it STILL works as a REGULAR TV... Just skip the WIFI/Internet setup and select Antenna or... Cable (if you have it) to do a channel scan/set up and then hit live TV on your remote. Or switch to your DVR/PVR/Cable box (HDMI 1 or HDMI2 or AV)
Q) What is AV?
A) the red yellow and white RCA hookup
Q)mine has the orange blue and green...
A) Red=orange blue white and Green yellow
Now you can use your, "smart TV" as a regular TV. It's okay.

That is how we use our 48" Sony, we bought in 2009...
We have not watched cable, satelight or much air TV since TV went digital... we make our own programming with dvds.. no ads, no propaganda.

Yeah... But you can download movies for free and place them on USB thumb drives and use your TV to stream them 😎
Also youtube has alot of classic movies for free that you can watch as well. 🙂

We tried streaming, but, the offerings were rubbish, paying for selections were were not interested in. and we do not need to rely on having internet to watch.
We have a 6 disc, multi national DVD player so, we put different series in and make our own programming - Xfiles, Star Trek original, and One Foot in the Grave (Brit Com from the 80s) currently, seems to work well for us so far.
I am sure, as dwellings get smaller. people will be herded into storing their entertainment as you suggest, or be more and more tied to the internet, where everything will be on 'the cloud', or in GIANT computer facilities out in the desert around Phoenix, sucking all the water... which is what is happening at the moment.
We go to Phoneix once every 3 months, and the outer loop road, 303, is now flanked by such facilities, and tiny pod coffin dwellings.
If you wish to see the future envisage by Agenda 2030, look at the 303 loop.
