Personal Statement on REAL ID

I am all for USA election security, and for the systematic improvement of our identification processes when sensitive matters are at hand (purchasing of age restricted materials, opening financial accounts, etc.)

But when the federal government of the United States decides to attach the exercise of the Right of Free Travel upon the Several States of the Union, to the possession of an enhanced, government-issued ID which itself is being pitched with promises of “election protection”, I judge that to be more akin to coercion and sleight of hand warfare, no different than ‘take this vaxxine or you can’t have access to the economic system to earn a living’.

If it were truly about election security, and no other reason, then other more focalized and specific enhancements to the voter-registration, and voter-ID-verification processes would (and could) be made. And these changes could come from the federal government, and work th
