Today's Gospel: Joh 13, 1-15
Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father.
2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
Every year, I sing for the Easter Triduum, and Holy Thursday has always been special to me. As connected as I always felt to that day , it took me decades to connect the ritual of the foot-washing to my own life. I used to simply observe it as a reenactment of an event that happened a long time ago, but it’s so much more. It’s a reminder to us to look for ways to wash the feet of others by humbling ourselves and choosing kindness over being right, being merciful and forgiving to everyone, using our words to lift people up, and making sacrifices to put others’ needs before our own.
Jesus lived what He preached. By His actions! Amen!
