I was talking to hubs about this thing of folk wearing pyjama's to the store last night... he said, some of the kids come to school like that too (he teaches JROTC) - and there is nothing the teachers can do, as the school administration allows it.

Criminal.

The school Superintendant is corrupt too - at the last school board meeting he advocated for 'moving funds' to make the multipurpose building the school had built 10 years ago on a bond, 'look better'...

The school board complains about the hours kids butts are in seats, (advocating for a 5 day not the current 4 longer day schedule), but then in the next breath, approves a really dumbass 'spirit day' that involves the whole school being at the multi purpose building to play stupid games...

The insanity at every level continues

Superintendant is just rubbing our faces in it now.

There was no air conditioning in any school when I was growing up.

Even on the HOTTEST days we weren't allowed to wear SHORTS.

The dress code was VERY strict.

Ridiculous the way these kids are coddled.

We had spirit week (not just a day). We still had class but there were all kinds of activities and contests (no participation trophies) that helped build cohesiveness. We also participated in mock elections complete with campaigning, giving speeches, conventions, etc. that were designed to teach us how the political system works. We also had the stock market game/contest. While I am sure there were some students who did not like it or felt estranged, my experience was that school was not meant to provide therapy, healthcare, social services, etc. This change seems to have occurred because society has been so fractured that people were trying to provide solutions to reach kids with services and their intentions were good (using school as an access point) but perhaps it is time to evaluate how well this has been working. Do people actually have the training and skill to provide what they are doing in some of these schools?
