This is Georges Lemaître, the Belgian Jesuit Roman Catholic priest who in 1927 proposed what he called the "hypothesis of the primeval atom" or the "cosmic egg," suggesting that the universe began from a single point—a "primeval atom"-and has been expanding ever since, the concept that later became known as the "Big Bang theory."
