Last weekend we visited one of the oldest sandstone quarries in Western Europe. The quarry in Bad Bentheim in Germany, 20 km from our house. The sandstone is used in almost the entire world. What is special is that the sandstone of the enormous base of the Statue of Liberty in New York also comes from this quarry, which is more than 1000 years old.
