Military tribunals, authorized under the Military Commissions Act of 2006, operate in key locations worldwide, beyond the well-known prison barges and ships in international waters. These tribunals are convened at four significant bases:

1️⃣ Camp Justice – Guantánamo Bay Naval Base (GTMO), Cuba

2️⃣ Camp Thunder Cove – Naval Support Facility, Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory

Origins of Camp Justice

Camp Justice has a unique history. Initially established at Diego Garcia, the site was renamed Camp Thunder Cove in July 2006. The name Camp Justice was later assigned in 2007 to the military commissions complex at Guantánamo Bay.

The naming was a result of a contest won by Technical Sergeant Neil Felver of the 122 Civil Engineering Squadron.

Locations of Strategic Importance

Each of these bases holds significant geopolitical and logistical value:

Camp Justice (GTMO, Cuba): Known for its role in high-profile tribunals, it serves as a symbol of U.S. military judicial authority.

Camp Thunder Cove (Diego Garcia): Strategically positioned in the Indian Ocean, this base supports operations across the Middle East and Asia.
