A local indigenous band is trying to force the town of Powell River, B.C. to rename itself because apparently the name celebrates Canada's colonial past

Surely its a choice of the individual as to what name they choose to refer to a region or settlement.
No one can force another to use language they do not agree with either way.
Person A: "I use the english name"
Me: "ok"
Person B: "I use the indigenous name"
Me: "ok"
Anything else is equivalent to "I demand you only use my choice of pronouns!"
No.
You say what you want and so will I.
