There should be a caveat here. To ensure that the dishwasher is safe from water backing up into the sink. One should disconnect the drain hose from where it attaches to the sink drain. If it’s connected there, all the water that might back up into your system will then back flow into the dishwasher. Most dishwasher drains don’t have a check valve to keep this from happening. Disconnecting the hose and sealing off the end, possibly with a plug and then sealing it with wax is one way I can think of. Do not disconnect it from the dishwasher as that will fill it before anything backs up into your system. It’s a great idea as long as you are aware of how dishwashers work and prepare accordingly.
