Back in the old days we used to leave our pets alone. I don't mean alone alone, I mean, we didn't bother them with tons of shots, groomers and vet visits.
Both my parents grew up on farms in the 30s/40s and that's how it was. The animals weren't neglected -you took care of them - but you didn't pump them full of chemicals, slice them up with invasive procedures, nor stress them by letting a veterinarian poke and prod them unless it was a diar circumstance.
This goes for kids, too.
