A massive fire ravaged Copenhagen's 17th-century former stock exchange on Tuesday, bringing down the historic building's iconic spire in front of horrified witnesses.
The 54-meter (180-foot) spire disappeared in flames inside the Borsen building, which was undergoing renovations, an AFP journalist saw.
“This is our Notre Dame! It's a national treasure," emotional local resident Elisabeth Moltke, 45, told AFP as she watched the fire.
The building is located just a stone's throw from the country's parliament and the seat of government, Christiansborg.
