I recall watching a vid of him in about 2012 at a muslim business convention or something, when he was mayor of london, and he said...
I'm proud to be the first mayor of london of muslim descent.
That was the first time I thought WTF, and dug in a little and found out his lineage is Turkish.
I looked into his 'anything to declare' bio when he was PM and he had noted down that he was a member of some Turkish club or other in London, so he still obviously follows his roots.
