I recently discovered the 12 tribes of Israel.
My maternal grandfather's first name was Reuben. His father emigrated from wales to Australia around 1870 aged 14.
I wonder ... names in the past were carried down through familes. It is an unusual name even for Wales.

Did some genealogy work in the past. Names were big clue to ancestors. Also significant was the family bible, ships manifests, and census records.
