This guy's whole lecture is very interesting. It is also very reassuring to Christians who are questioning the validity of the various translations of the New Testament. There is a narrative in anon land that we can't trust any of the Bible because its been tampered with. Maybe, but the number or original Greek copies is significant and, while lots of variations exists, the variations themselves are not significant. Very few would change the meaning of even the sentence in which they are found. Let alone the lesson of the verse.
The 666 vs 616 is an important discussion. The varying symbols in very old and vetted texts implies that John saw symbols rather than numbers. This leaves the door open to what the symbols mean.
On the other hand, we see 666 being used constantly by the occult. It's in our faces daily. Why would they use it if it didn't have meaning?

Yes. It could be used as a mascot because it is mocking at how Christians are still deceived by a translation error. 666 certainly works as a dog whistle on decoders.
